South Dakota has joined the ranks of the 38 other states who have autism insurance mandates! Governor Dennis Daugaard signed senate bill 190 earlier this month. The law sets an annual minimum benefit for ABA or applied behavioral analysis at $36,000 for children through the age of six. Children between the ages of 7 and 13 will have a $25,000 limit, and children ages 14 to 18 will have $12,500 of annual coverage.
Every child deserves to have the opportunity to succeed. By passing this mandate South Dakota lawmakers are giving many of their constituents on the autism spectrum the chance to reach their hopes and dreams. Hopefully, autism mandates will be passed in every state. No matter where you live, you should have the opportunity to shine.
