Yesterday brought more great news to the autism insurance world! Terry McAuliffe, the governor of Virginia, signed House Bill 1940 into law. We here at AHSS have been following this bill and hoping it would be passed. The law extends autism insurance coverage to children ten years old and younger. Previously, Virginia law only mandated that children six and under be covered.
This is a huge step for Virginia, since the majority of children on the spectrum are not diagnosed in Virginia until age five or six. This bill will bring peace of mind to many families who will now be able to find health insurance that ensures their child gets the care and therapy he or she needs.
