Here is a fantastic recent message from BCBA Courtney Doornbos:
Kerri Flynn and I started working with a client almost 3 years ago, and next week he will be graduating [from AHSS]. When we started services, he had very few play skills/interests. His leisure time revolved completely around electronics. Newly-introduced items often ended up on his “shrine” in their packaging where no one could touch them in fear they would be broken. Autism has made it very hard for him to understand other perspectives and to hold conversations. Therefore, he has had a tough time making and maintaining relationships. Two weeks ago, he celebrated his eighth birthday. I am so happy to report he invited friends to his house and was able to share his nerf guns so they could all have a “war”!! It’s truly remarkable to see the progress he has made and I am so proud of his successes.
This is why we do what we do here at AHSS. We care about our clients and their families, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the people we care about show progress! #WWDWWD
